The Test Instrumentation/Data Acquisition & Controls Engineering Co-op will work with experienced engineers to design, build, troubleshoot, and deploy a custom electrical interface system to integrate into a transmission and engine electronic control system with a test cell control system; to allow for full automation of a transmission in a lab test environment. This College Co-op will also apply test instrumentation to a transmission under test in a lab environment, to collect NVH or strain data. As well as collect data, analyze data, and prepare formal technical report on findings.


  • Learn the structure of a test cell instrumentation/automation system and practical fundamentals such as calibration, instrument/cable selection and application, etc. and apply these concepts in the construction of EE components in support of active CNH lab tests
  • Learn to design basic electronic circuits for use in test application, such as valve driver boxes, instrument signal amplifiers, etc.
  • Using basic electrical/electronic troubleshooting skills and equipment, collect data and analyze problems in tests cells to determine issue root cause and apply corrective action
  • Learn fundamentals of NVH and structural stress/strain data collection, specifically related to driveline and hydraulic systems and components
  • Analyze collected data for review with colleagues and to draw performance conclusions


  • Pursuing a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related degree area
  • Must have reliable transportation to get you to and form the facility.
  • Must live within a commutable distance (no more than 50 miles) of facility
    • Relocation will not be offered
  • Must be able to work part time during school year (15-20 hrs/week) and full time during the summer ( 40 hrs/week)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in working with hands-on tasks in a lab test environment
  • Interested in gaining further experience and skills related to both electrical and mechanical machinery topics
  • Able to quickly learn new concepts and work with limited supervision, while able to decide when input of more experienced personnel is required
  • Some previous experience with data acquisition and EE diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Experience or knowledge in mechanical stress/strain and/or NVH topics preferred
