As a Field Test Technician, you will conduct and document functional, performance, and durability evaluations related to field test and product performance in support of Ag Tractor Product Development.
Support and execute field test activities (local, national, and international) to validate quality, reliability, and durability. Actively participate in the set-up and operation of test tractors for field applications. Travel to and work with customers and dealers to complete field test activities.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repairs issues. Enlist SMEs to aid in identifying root-cause and corrective action.
Act as the Voice of the Customer. Evaluate customer appeal and value of product features. Evaluate serviceability and repairability.
Support jury evaluations and software evaluations to determine suitability for field test with customers.
Complete Quality/Reliability tests and audits on production and pre-production tractors. Tests include predelivery inspections, customer reliability audits (CRAs), etc.
Setup and execute whole vehicle lab tests. Examples of tests include hydraulic tests, drawbar testing, etc.
Select, calibrate, and install the correct instrumentation. Prepare the data acquisition equipment.
Collect and analyze data. Identify trends or issues and gauge performance. Confirm whether the systems under test meet internal specifications, external legal/safety requirements, and our customers’ expectations.
Benchmark competitive equipment, confirming our product lines place us in a “best in class” position. Identify areas of improvement and quantify the gaps.
Document results in technical reports, including fact-based conclusions and recommendations.
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering or Technology (or related field)
2 plus years experience farming, operating tractors, field testing, or similar. Knowledge of tractor systems (and/or other off-road equipment) and operation. Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining on/off-road vehicles or other equipment.
The ideal Candidate will have:
Experience with precision farming techniques including auto guidance and GNSS, telematics, product control and ISOBus, Farm Management Information Systems (FMIS), etc.
Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems with strong problem-solving skills
Experience selecting, calibrating and installing test instrumentation (load cells, pressure transducers, thermocouples, flowmeters, etc.) with data acquisition tools (Somat eDAQ, DEWESoft, CANalyzer or similar).
Experience with post-processing test data.
Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) issues, problems, and observations of work being performed.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to conduct technical hands-on, and analytical tasks with little supervision.
Demonstrated ability to work with cross discipline teams as well as being a strong individual contributor.
Ability to work with minimal supervision managing multiple projects and tasks
Experience with regulatory/compliance testing of tractors (NTTL, OECD, Homologation, Tractor Mother Regulations, etc.)
Demonstrated root-cause identification and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical engineering documents and drawings.
