Chief Engineer - Seeding

Position Summary:


Engineering leader within Seeding platform responsible for execution of overall engineering requirements to meet and exceed platform goals relating to product design, cost and release timing for the full Product Life Cycle. In priority, focus is placed on leading first, know the business, then technical execution. Products in scope are all configurations of seeding equipment (air carts with disk drills, precision & conventional hoe drills, seeding cultivators). Lead and coach team members through individual development and project execution. Manage daily workload and prioritization, develop and manage resource plan, develop and manage engineering budget. Provide transparent communication to management and the product development team.




Continuous development and coaching of the Engineering team. Focused on ensuring team has clear vision of what is required to execute programs ensuring the utmost customer satisfaction with the solution.


Develops the proposed engineered product solution plan in support of the product development plan and ensures a clear communication and understanding within the technical team as well as to the cross functional Platform Team. Leads, supervises and reviews the work of project and design engineers to ensure the efficient and timely completion of project milestones within required budgetary guidelines


Has final responsibility for all Functional Performance of the vehicle (the chief engineer owns the technical solution)


Has final responsibility to ensure Design is meeting all international Homologation and Safety requirements.


Has final responsibility for product reliability and drives use of proactive tools and best engineering practices during design phases


Defines course of action regarding assigned project plan and schedule consistent with project and product line objectives


Documents technical specifications of the vehicle including Engineering Bill of Material, CAD structure, Engineering Drawings and Specifications.


Develops project resource plan and works with internal Project Engineers and Competency Center managers to ensure human resources and skill sets are allocated to achieve plan goals


Responsible for the career development of engineering team. Has the ability to make hiring decisions and may make necessary disciplinary actions, including employee discharge. Acquires and manages outsourced engineering resources as needed to meet objectives.


Prepares data and documentation of major milestone review presentations to the platform leader and executive management team


Creates and manages budgets, forecasts and capital equipment requirements with economic justifications linked to design and development activities.


Assist in the development of the product road map.


Represent the Global Seeding technology and act as the expert when looking for global seeding solutions with the global team




Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical, Agricultural and/or electrical disciplines

10 plus years of work experience in product development, preferably in the Agriculture

3 plus years of experience managing a team, including managing performance, career planning and development


Preferred Qualifications:


The ideal Candidate will have:


Master's Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical, Agricultural and/or electrical disciplines


Demonstrated Leadership ability as a coach and within a cross functional team.


Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) issues, problems, and observations across multiple levels and work groups.


Ability to learn and demonstrate proficiency in new global processes and systems.


Strong problem-solving skills. Strong individual contributor.
