As a Tractor Cab & Body Design and Development Engineer for Large Ag. Tractors, you will design new products and improve existing products for the Case IH and New Holland CCH [Cash Crop High] and 4WD tractors manufactured at the Racine, WI and Fargo, ND plants.
The successful candidate will have mechanical design responsibility and “end to end” lead development projects for systems focused on cab exterior mechanical design, engine hoods, fenders, exterior trim, and enclosures. We seek candidates that have experience with the following systems: hoods/engine enclosures, fenders, mechanical linkages, perforated metal grille screens, exterior non-metallic materials, electronic component mounting, and welded fabrications.
Design and develop hood and fender systems: inclusive of concept selection, prototype builds, field validation, and support industrialize new product launches and feature upgrades.
Complete 2D print creation and engineering releases to ensure desired implementation, communicate design intent, and provide quality expectations as APQP/PPAP input.
Capture requirements to define performance expectations and system integration, aligned to program objectives and functional needs, including design for manufacturing.
Conduct design calculations: utilize hand calculation and analysis tools, consider trade-offs, recommend system concepts, and lead design reviews throughout the development process.
Prioritize workload and plan project tasks to deliver consistent results that meet or exceed the time, cost, and quality expectations of both external and internal customers
Proactively mitigate risk utilizing virtual analysis, DFMEA, ergonomic studies, physical bench and sub-system testing and other tools/methods to identify and manage design risk.
Identify, contain, and resolve design issues: utilize disciplined 7-step method, advanced modelling, and statistical tools to confirm root cause and implement resolutions.
Communicate with management; utilize engineering tools in concert with verbal/written skills and trade off analysis to concisely convey feasibility, performance, and customer acceptance.
Collaborate with process partners to align expectations among manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, commercial/marketing, program leadership, and other members of the platform team.
Direct workload and utilize agency resources as required to complete designs, meeting or exceeding time, cost, and quality targets.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Automotive Engineering
6 plus years of prior work experience in design and product development of off-road equipment or similar vehicles
3 plus years of Pro/E Creo and Teamcenter experience
3 plus years prior work experience in plastic/non-metallic design, with a focus on injection molding, Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), or structural plastics
Ability to travel within US up to 10%, with peaks during machine builds
The ideal candidate will have:
Past experience in agriculture machines, ideally tractors, sprayers, or combines
Balance of strong technical and communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
3 plus years of experience working on globally based, cross functional teams, including operator stations, engine/cooling installation, or chassis design.
Experience in Human Factors, Human Machine Interface, Operator Environment or other on or off-road vehicle engineering systems.
Past experience working in or collaborating with industrial design/styling
Strong interpersonal/leadership skills, ability to manage change effectively to minimize program impact
Experience with mechanical linkages, point layouts, and kinematic calculations
Experience participating in or conducting exterior lighting and visibility studies
Working knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word, Project, Vis, etc.)
