After-Market Precision Farming Systems Engineer

The After-Market Precision Farming Systems Engineer will be a part of development teams as it relates to after-market Precision Farming, displays, auto guidance and telematics for Agriculture equipment.  This position will act as an interface between Platform, Marketing, Engineering and External Suppliers/Partners for requirements gathering and clarification.  It will also ensure high quality demands on the execution, delivery and coordination of projects so that the program will be positively achieved.


  • Create detailed systems specifications for projects
  • Work to support integration of products and systems with all vehicle platforms.
  • Assist in the development of product plan.
  • Works with Platform and Marketing Manager on clear deliverables.
  • Review progress of projects and provides frequent progress updates to stakeholders.
  • Make recommendations to peers and direct manager based on sound engineering principles, practices and judgment pertaining to specific engineering problems as a contribution to the overall engineering and manufacturing objectives.
  • Incorporate engineering safety standards, methodologies and global product development processes into all aspects of project.
  • Prepare reports consistent with program requirements, CNHi development processes and recommends processes unique to expertise.
  • Propose innovations, creates invention disclosures, critiques and advocates proposals for others, propose and develop new design concepts and IP which will advance CNHi product/systems
  • Planning and performing development testing of various systems on vehicles.  Collecting data, modifying parameters and algorithms, analyzing data, solving problems and writing reports.  Identifying bugs and performance issues and pushing to root cause
  • 'Hands on' tasks such as possibly changing vehicle components (sensors, controllers, etc.) and 'in-vehicle' troubleshooting
  • Documentation and tracking of defects using commercial software tools
  • Wire harness design, creating, fit up and validation


The qualified candidate will have:


  • B.S. Degree in Engineering in electrical, software and/or agricultural disciplines
  • 3 years of product development experience with emphasis on systems engineering
  • 2 years of experience in requirements definition and documentation for on-road or off-road vehicle systems
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Position can reside in Burr Ridge IL , Goodfield IL or Mt Joy IA.


The preferred candidate will have:


  • Prior experience in the automotive industry, agricultural industry or heavy-duty industry
  • Understanding of vehicle control systems operation including electronic controls and software, GPS, hydraulic valves and application control
  • Familiarity with vehicle bus systems such as CAN
  • Familiarity with calibration tools such as CANalyzer, ControlDesk, CANape or Inca
  • Practical experience with GPS, autoguidance and precision farming systems
  • Experience operating various agricultural/off highway vehicles
  • Familiarity with farming equipment and operations
  • Familiarity with commercial defect tracking tools
  • Formal root cause analysis training - 8D, 5 whys, fishbone, etc.
