The Planting & Seeding Product Systems Engineering Manager’s primary functions will be to deliver planter and seeder projects, manage a team of systems and software engineers, coordinate budgets, and work closely with the chief engineers and platform managers to complete CPM, CPI, GPD and Advanced Engineering Projects. This position is the single point of contact within the Vehicle Electronics organization to provide the product design teams timely, efficient, and cost-effective electronic systems for planting and seeding equipment through their team members.


  • Develop the proposed engineered product solutions in support of the product development plans and ensure understanding amongst VE engineering staff responsible for their completion; eliminate road-blocks and drive projects to completion
  • Lead, supervise and review the work of VE systems and software engineers to ensure the efficient and timely completion of specific project milestones within required budgetary guidelines
  • Defines course of action regarding assigned project plan and schedule consistent with project and platform objectives
  • Create and manage budgets, forecasts and capital equipment requirements with economic justifications linked to design and development activities
  • Set yearly SMART Goals and deliver year end performance reviews for direct reports; create development and learning plans for direct reports
  • Develop project resource plans and works with internal managers to ensure human resources and skill sets are allocated to achieve plan goals
  • Make hiring decisions and may take necessary disciplinary actions, including employee discharge and is responsible for the career development of engineering team
  • Acquire and manage outsourced engineering resources
  • Prepares data and documentation of major milestone review presentations to the platform leader and executive management team
  • Travel, as necessary, to plants, supplier facilities, product evaluation, and customer field sites to resolve problems, explore design alternatives, reverse engineering and provide information


Required Qualifications:

  • B. S. Degree in Engineering
  • Experience with electronic systems design and development
  • Experience leading teams to solve complex, electronic problems
  • Experience with off-highway/on-highway mobile equipment
  • Experience with electronic machine systems integration
  • Experience managing system requirements and specifications
  • Experience managing projects utilizing Microsoft Project or equivalent
  • Leadership experience - directly managing people or at minimum leading people indirectly via projects
  • Position can reside in Burr Ridge IL or Saskatoon ON

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M. S. Degree in Engineering
  • Demonstrated Experience supervising direct reports
  • Demonstrated Experience with agricultural equipment and/or machines
  • Demonstrated Experience with Electro-Hydraulic control systems
  • Demonstrated Experience with Embedded Object Oriented Programming (C/C++, etc…)
  • Demonstrated Experience with electronic component and/or hydraulic component design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design analysis tools and other relevant engineering systems
  • Demonstrated Experience with Requirements Management Tools (ex: DOORS, Polarian, etc…)
  • Demonstrated Experience with Software-in-the-Loop or Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing
  • Demonstrated Experience with CAN vehicle communications (i.e. J1939, ISO11783)
  • Demonstrated Experience using CANalyzer
  • Demonstrated Experience as Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and organization/control skills
