As a Vehicle Electronics Organization team member, the Electromechanical Component Engineer is globally responsible for the design, validation, and application of HMI components into Agriculture and Construction Equipment Product Lines. They will support global systems and application engineering teams and lead issue resolutions using disciplined problem-solving methodologies. The Electromechanical Component Engineer will manage suppliers and provide component product development oversight.

Responsibilities

The following apply to the responsibility of HMI related components: Joysticks/Keypads/Handles/Switches/Armrests/Encoders

  • Lead component engineering activities which includes research, development, and co-development of components, typically using a strategic subset of global supply chain partners.
  • Collect hardware requirements from global cross-functional teams.
  • Author component level technical specifications governing functional and performance requirements.
  • Review supplier component design documentation, including schematic, worst case circuit analysis, printed circuit board layout, DFMEA, component and ergonomic styling.
  • Review and approve supplier component validation test plans and reports.
  • Review supplier component failure analysis reports.
  • Manage the component supplier throughout the development, validation and production phases.
  • Develops, tests and implements engineering change requests (ECRs) for design revisions.
  • Analyzes and evaluates new or improved Electromechanical HMI components.
  • Designs, fabricates, tests, implements and modifies Electromechanical HMI components, products and systems.
  • Establishes test procedures and systems for inspection of Electromechanical HMI components.
  • Responsible for technology roadmaps and commodity/supplier strategies
  • Participate in problem resolutions of components utilizing industry known best practices such as 8D, and 5Why.
  • Responsible for preparation of designs, layouts and drawings for component developments and/or improvements.
  • Supports application, sub system and system engineering teams with preparation of reports.
  • Responsible in the facilitation of communication between engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, quality and other functional areas within multi-disciplinary product development team environments.
  • Responsible for Design Of Experiments and Design Validation testing, as well as, the recognition and recommendation of design and validation gaps covering existing Off The Self technologies and custom developed hardware.
  • Supplier technical liaison.
  • Responsible for internal customer satisfaction, documenting processes and best practices as well as reviewing detailed engineering drawings and releasing parts production procurement for global operations.
  • Responsible for recommendation and implementation of test equipment, disassemble experimental components, oversight of corrective actions and ownership in determining the cause of failures and/or travel to supplier sites as needed to facilitate communication between engineering and suppliers.
  • Responsible for the reporting and implementation of improvements to product engineering teams for execution based on knowledge gained through cross-functional interactions at the suppliers.
  • Responsible for the coordination of new product development projects and their progress, interfacing regularly with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and compliance to company requirements, specifications, standards and 2D/3D engineering documentation, interacting directly with interval customer agreeing on packaging constraints and technical requirements as well as drive required timing of delivery.
  • Maintain and communicate component development status and risk to management and vehicle customers.
  • Define/Communicate/deploy component specific integration/installation requirements.
  • Support vehicle level signoff of component installation at various project milestones.
  • Produces project status reports and provides frequent team progress updates to direct supervisor and relevant project managers.
  • Creates, maintains and manages component develop project plans.
  • Responsible for internal customer satisfaction, documenting processes and best practices as well as reviewing detailed engineering drawings and releasing parts production procurement for global operations.
  • Responsible for the reporting and implementation of improvements to product engineering teams for execution based on knowledge gained through cross-functional interactions at the suppliers.
  • Assist in the creation of data and documentation for major milestone review presentations to integration, platform leaders, and executive management teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study.
  • A minimum of 6 total years of experience in Electromechanical development with 3 years’ experience concentrated in HMI product development.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience dealing with suppliers and/or customers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of principles and practices of Electromechanical component validation for Automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, agricultural, construction, aerospace or medical equipment including Electrical, EMC, and environmental qualifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of Electromechanical or related designs, including mechanical construction, electrical circuits, I/O interface circuitry.
  • Electronics packaging experience
  • Capable of reading and understanding System Block Diagrams, Embedded System Hardware Schematics, and Electrical System Schematics
  • Strong Project Management skills and experience, ability to manage more than one project simultaneously
  • Possess strong communication skills and the ability to engage and correspond with global network of teams, colleagues and interfaces in which English may be a second language.
  • Possess the ability, knowledge and experience to interact, mentor and manage colleagues from various locations, regions and business sectors.
  • Possess the ability to delegate activities, work, and requests to other work colleagues within and external to functional and reporting group.
  • Able to work independently
  • Accountable for meeting own targets
  • Travel up to 5% of the time both domestic and international
  • OEM experience or Tier 1 product development experience.
  • Communication skills in foreign languages.
  • Experience with ProE (or other MCAD SW like Unigraphics or Catia)
  • Experience with Automotive Environmental Validation requirements and test procedures for electromechanical, electrical, and electronic components
  • Experience with Teamcenter or other Product Lifecycle management tools and Digital Mockup Environments
  • Experience with methodologies, drafting standards and industry practice in the documentation of Electromechanical components
  • Experience with CAN vehicle communications (i.e. J1939, ISO11783)
  • Experience working with Off-Highway/On-Highway vehicles
  • Industrial and Ergonomic Design experience
