Location US-IL-Burr Ridge
Position Type

CNH Industrial is a global leader in industrial goods. We provide farmers with cutting-edge technologies to help them feed a growing world population and we assist in building and rebuilding cities and infrastructures, all with future-proof powertrain solutions. With our Case IH, New Holland Agriculture, Case and New Holland Construction, and FPT Industrial brands, and comprehensive solutions for financing and aftermarket services, we’re driven to meet the needs of our customers.

The System Modeling Engineer is responsible to develop high fidelity virtual vehicle system and subsystem models and vehicle plant models, to simulate the transient and dynamic characteristics for virtual vehicle performance validation as well as vehicle operation functions and behaviors for concurrent model based product development of both agricultural and construction equipment products. This individual will report to CNH Industrial Design Analysis and Simulation with overall system modeling and analysis responsibility.

  • Model the multi-domain off-highway vehicle systems and sub-systems using laws of physics
  • Analyze and simulate system performance, behavior, and dynamics
  • Develop vehicle plant models to support model-based control development for model in the loop (MIL) and hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation
  • Focus on multi-domain and multi-physics vehicle system simulation including driveline, hydraulics, linkage, and their interactions
  • Optimize solutions during the concept stage as well as during the design and development stages
  • Make recommendations for strategic decisions making and performance improvement
  • Interact closely with vehicle engineering, hydraulic engineering, driveline engineering, control engineering and test engineering
  • Create test validation plans and write test requests to support product validation activities
  • Recommends updates of methodology, procedures, and standards for the improvement of simulation capability

The qualified candidate will have experience with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or related field
  • Three (3) years of industrial or equivalent work/research experience
  • A minimum of 1 year experience with multi-domain simulation tools, such as SimScape, AmeSim and GT-Suite
  • Good understanding the first principles, such as Newton’s laws and conservation of energy.
  • Ability to apply the theory to create component and system dynamic models
  • Knowledge of multi-physics vehicle systems, their functions and performance, such as transmission and hydraulics
  • Knowledge in static and dynamic systems, and linear and nonlinear control theory (time domain and frequency domain)
  • Exposed in multi-physics co-simulation and real-time simulation and their implementation
  • Familiar with model-based product development process and procedure

The preferred candidate will have experience with the following:

  • Master’s Degree in engineering or related field
  • OEM, off highway experience or Tier 1 experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of agricultural/construction machinery functions and operation principles, such as crop production equipment and tractors, is plus
  • Work experience with model-in-the-loop (MIL) and hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulations
  • Understanding of software architecture, sensors, and CAN communication
  • Basic knowledge and experience of other tools, such as Team Center, ProE, CANalyzer and ControlDesk
  • Able to plan projects that includes project objectives, deliverable, milestones and project timeline
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate proficiency in new global processes and systems, with strong problem-solving skills and effectively communicate (verbal and written) issues, problems, and observations of work being performed
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams as well as being a strong individual contributor
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision managing multiple projects and tasks
