The Strategic Sourcing Specialist - Chemical -Manages the purchase of production parts for 10 North American manufacturing plants. This person will be responsible for handling the supplier relationships and setting/supporting strategic direction for the assigned Chemical commodity perimeter, and driving/achieving budget objectives, sourcing, supporting warranty campaigns, and meeting rationalization targets. This position will forecast and report economic savings performance, main point of contact for commercial negotiations, drive long term agreements, market test, award new business to increase, and analyze various reports to identify cost reduction opportunities/risk mitigation. Additionally, the specialist will support special projects as needed to assist in delivering commodity goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier evaluation, selection, and sourcing for assigned commodities for all North American operations and supporting global sourcing projects by working closely with the global commodity team (EMEA, LATAM, APAC).
  • Programs: Support function for new product launch initiatives while developing and implementing cost reduction and sourcing strategies by using parts for new platforms to meet program timing, cost, quality, delivery, and strategic objectives.
  • Develops/implements supply base management strategies both regionally and globally that lead to lowest total cost in terms of quality, lead time, delivery, service and unit cost. Drives the selection of suppliers, negotiates and maintains performance to expectations.
  • Negotiate, implement and lead LTA's while achieving commercial savings and raw material recovery in order to meet or exceed material cost and total cost reduction objectives and while supporting organizational initiatives. Facilitates supplier/engineering VA/VE activities to drive product cost savings and process improvement initiatives to achieve budget performance.
  • Provide leadership and develop an understanding and insight into the market for the commodities assigned; including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, lead-times, technology and manufacturing capability of company suppliers and suppliers in the market that best meet expectations and objectives. Track, monitor, and complete hedges at optimal raw material market conditions to minimize risk.
  • This position pays $88,000-$110,000

Qualifications

The Qualified candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field
  • 5+ years of work experience preferred in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Quality, Sales or Manufacturing

 The preferred candidate will have experience with the following:

  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Excel (to include pivot tables and v-look ups)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, negotiation skills, analytical and problem solving skills, and computer skills
  • Excellent ability to work as a team within purchasing, other functions, and with locations worldwide
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge/experience of raw material analysis and tracking systems
  • Experience in analyzing, selecting/recommending, approving and auditing suppliers for different product platforms within a multi-plant manufacturing environment, based upon supplier capability relative to designing, supporting, quality and manufacturing
  • Strong negotiation background with knowledge of corporate purchasing practices and strategies that bring about closure of long-term agreements reflecting positive results that contribute to organizational/departmental goals
  • Experience developing and implementing commodity strategies
  • Proven experience in mitigating supplier delivery, cost, and relationship issues with positive outcome for the company
  • Ability to facilitate and lead technical and commercial meetings that require multiple cross functional participants
