As the Design Lead for Energy Storage Systems, you will manage a global team in the design and development of battery systems for products in the Agricultural and Construction Industries. You will help build and lead a team of engineers covering the core competencies and activities for mechanical, electrical and thermal design and the interfaces required for full integration within the vehicle systems. The right candidate will be responsible for all design activities including Requirements Definition, Concept Initiation, Product Development, Production Release, Vehicle Launch, and Post Launch evaluations.




  • Build and lead a team of engineers to design energy storage systems
  • Direct the mechanical, electrical and thermal design and integration of components
  • Coordinate the use of simulation to guide the design efforts towards first time quality
  • Support system DFMEA’s and coordinate supplier component DFMEA’s
  • Direct concept studies and provide trade-off analysis
  • Direct development testing and provide input for validation plans
  • Detail assembly designs to meet applicable safety standards
  • Direct the design team activities for vehicle integration including installation, crash, thermal, electrical
  • Ensure the proper production release of components and assemblies
  • Ensure the design meets all manufacturability requirements
  • Interface with Purchasing and Suppliers during the sourcing and development process
  • Coordinate design changes and BOM management throughout the product release process
  • Work closely with lead engineers and cross functional team members (vehicle, modeling and simulation, software, and functional safety)
  • Communicate design progress to leadership and manage project risk
  • Prepare for and participate in formal and informal design/peer review activities
  • Coordinate design activities with global locations
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies for energy storage and integration applications
  • Provide direction/mentorship to team members and conduct semi-annual performance reviews
  • Position pays from $150,000-$190,000 (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)


Required Qualification:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or relevant Technical degree
  • PE License
  • Demonstrated leadership in the design, development and build of energy storage systems
  • 8 plus years of experience in product development and project management
  • Very strong CAD tool skills such as CREO 3D, CATIA, NX, SOLIDWORKS
  • Skilled at mechanical/structural design for battery systems
  • Understand of packaging various battery pack components (cells, modules, busbars, fuses, wiring, connectors, control modules, cold plates, cooling hoses)
  • Understanding elements required for battery pack to vehicle integration (vehicle location, mechanical and electrical interfaces, crash/crush strategies)
  • Skilled in performing designs that meet safety standards
  • Create 2D drawings based on parametric CAD models per ANSI and ISO standards
  • Understanding of datum strategies, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), stack up analysis, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Experience designing parts requiring joining techniques (fastening, welding, adhesives)
  • Knowledge of engineering materials
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English
  • 5 plus years of experience with cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proactive behaviors
  • Ability to set clear objectives and deliverables, hold others accountable and influence others, regardless of position power or organization boundaries
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to extract and understand the big picture


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Agriculture and Construction domain knowledge and experience
  • Engineering Master’s degree
  • Experience with vehicle level performance and testing for electric applications
  • Understanding of the different cell chemistries and performance characteristics
  • Background in modeling, simulation and analysis
  • Knowledge of automotive certification standards (UN, UL, SAE, ISO, FMVSS)
  • Background in prototype builds and component validation
  • Experience using Variation Simulation Analysis (VSA)
  • Working experience in the design of injection molded engineered plastics, seals, machining, diecast aluminum, and stamped parts
  • Experience with PLM systems/tools (Windchill, Teamcenter)
  • Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Experience using both stage gate and Agile product development processes
