As the Manager for Battery Management Systems, you will manage a global team in the design and development of battery management systems to position CNHi as a leader in Electrification products in the Agricultural and Construction Industries. You will help build and lead a team of engineers covering the core competencies and activities for hardware, software and algorithm development, including the interfaces required for full integration within the vehicle systems. The right candidate will be responsible for all design activities including Requirements Definition, Concept Initiation, Product Development, Production Release, Vehicle Launch, and Post Launch evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leader for identification of BMS solutions across complete family of vehicles
  • Build and lead a team of engineers to direct the development of battery management systems
  • Direct the development of advanced battery state algorithms
  • Coordinate the use of battery state estimation and calibration from early modeling activities to vehicle integration and testing
  • Direct battery cell characterization activities and define cell failure modes as they pertain to battery management
  • Employ the use of advanced SOx methods and applications for relevant cell chemistries
  • Direct concept studies and provide trade-off analysis for cell performance -vs- life
  • Direct HW/SW development testing and provide test cases for validation plans
  • Lead HW/SW designs to meet applicable functional safety standards
  • Ensure the proper production release of HW and SW
  • Identify and establish the use of engineering tools/equipment for BMS development
  • Interface with Purchasing and Suppliers during the sourcing and development process
  • Coordinate HW/SW design changes and BOM management throughout the product release process
  • Work closely with lead engineers and cross functional team members (vehicle, modeling and simulation, software, and functional safety)
  • Communicate design progress to leadership and manage project risk
  • Prepare for and participate in formal and informal design/peer review activities
  • Coordinate design activities with global locations
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies for energy storage as it relates to BMS applications
  • Provide direction/mentorship to team members and conduct semi-annual performance reviews
  • Annual Salary for this position is $145,200.00 - $196,000.00 (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors such as skill, experience, and qualifications for the role)

Qualifications

Required Qualification:

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering
  • 8 years’ demonstrated leadership in the design, development and build of BMS HW and SW
  • Very strong modeling skills using Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with vehicle level performance and testing for electric vehicle applications
  • Deep understanding of battery cell chemistries and characterizations as they relate to battery state estimation
  • Experience with HIL testing
  • Demonstrate knowledge in battery management diagnostics
  • 5 years’ experience developing performance and aging models for relevant cell chemistries
  • Understanding of battery cell chemistry technologies and industry trends and how they relate to advancements in battery management methodologies
  • Skilled in performing designs that meet functional safety standards
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English
  • 5 plus years of experience with cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proactive behaviors
  • Ability to set clear objectives and deliverables, hold others accountable and influence others, regardless of position power or organization boundaries
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to extract and understand the big picture
  • Experience in leading complex engineering projects

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agriculture and Construction domain knowledge and experience
  • Engineering Master’s degree and/or PhD work in the field of battery management
  • Experience with AI and machine learning as it applies the BMS systems
  • Knowledge of automotive certification standards (UN, UL, SAE, ISO, FMVSS)
  • Background in prototype builds and component validation
  • Experience with PLM systems/tools (Windchill, Teamcenter)
  • Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Experience using both stage gate and Agile product development processes
