This position is part of the CNHI's Vehicle Electrification Team and will report to the Manager – Battery Management Systems.

Responsibilities

As a BMS Software Engineer (Battery Management Systems) for Energy Storage Products, you will lead the development of battery software and algorithms for Best-in-Class products in the Agricultural and Construction Industries. The BMS Software Engineer will play a critical role in defining and developing Battery State Estimation Algorithms with a focus on State-of-charge, State-of-power and State-of-health algorithms. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing algorithm design and leading application software development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Interface with suppliers to support joint BMS software development activities.
• Manage development of supplier battery state estimation functions including State-of-Charge (SOC), State-of-Power (SOP), and State-of-Health (SOH), safety software and diagnostics.
• Perform design reviews of supplier software to ensure accuracy, performance and safety requirements are met.
• Lead in-house battery state estimation (SOC/SOP/SOH) application software development using Model-Based-Design.
• Perform full cycle software development from requirement analysis, software architecture design, modelling, algorithm development, implementation and unit testing.
• Lead and provide roadmap for battery algorithms by keeping a tab on current and future trends.
• Develop complex control algorithms such as Kalman Filters for deployment in real time environment.
• Support development of cell models for algorithm development and validation activities such as Model-in-Loop (MIL) software simulation and deployment on a Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) test setting.
• Support testing and validation of BMS software at HIL, Battery Pack, and Vehicle. Review data and validation reports from different validation procedures.
• Coordinate with Battery Systems team to provide inputs to supplier test labs for cell/pack/SOx validation testing and SOx related cell characterization activities.
• Interface with vehicle, battery systems, battery hardware and prototype build teams

 

This Position pays: $97,000 - $139,000 and is eligible for the company bonus plan. (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline.
• 3 or more years of experience working in batteries/electric vehicle industry
• 2 or more years of experience with MATLAB scripting and software development using MBD (MATLAB Simulink/Stateflow/Codegen)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Engineering Master’s degree

• Demonstrated leadership in the development of Battery Algorithms for State Estimation
• Strong in control theory principles such as Kalman Filter, Extended Kalman Filter, Recursive least squares, state observers, etc.
• Knowledgeable in Li-ion cell modelling including Equivalent Circuit Models and Physics based models.
• Knowledge of interaction of BMS software with vehicle controller
• Understanding of various Li-ion cell chemistries
• Skilled in requirements definition that meet high voltage safety standards and battery performance for electric vehicle applications
• Strong interpersonal skills and proactive behaviors
• Ability to set clear objectives and deliverables, hold others accountable and influence others, regardless of position power or organization boundaries
• Detail-oriented individual with the ability to extract and understand the big picture
• Agriculture and Construction domain knowledge and experience
• Experience with vehicle level performance and testing for efficiency/life analysis
• Background in virtual analysis and simulation
• Background in MIL, SIL and HIL testing
• Experience using Agile product development processes
• Experience with CANalyzer, ETAS INCA
